J Higgins Ltd. - Kansas
Was just introduced to www.jhiggins.net
I pass it on to you.
A friend of mine knows a piper and asked where he shopped, this was it.
Jimmy - you might like some of the buckles.

J. Higgins...
Since Lenexa is only about 3 hours away from here, the Springfield Scots are very familiar with J. Higgins. Their prices are very reasonable for accessories, and yes, a lot in the piping & drumming community use them as a source, but I know several lads who have been disappointed with kilts from Higgins in the last couple of years -- one friend of mine ordered his first kilt from them back in 1995, and it was spot on -- he ordered another in 1999-2000, and it wasn't the same quality as his first one.
My first two custom kilts were from Higgins, and I noticed the same thing -- the first was better than the second in quality, although both were good kilts & I don't regret ordering them.
Cheers, ![Cheers!](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_beer.gif)

Thanks Galant.
Coincidentally, that's where I grew-up! Okay, so I was right next door in Overland Park and Prairie Village... but out there, a few miles are just a roll in the tornadic winds.
I'm due to head back "home" this summer, and will make an appointment to go in and meet everyone. Lord knows, I can do some damage in there!

Todd, that's exactly what I noticed after I picked up a previously owned, but not previously worn J Higgins kilt from the Kilt & Thistle in Salem, OR. It seemed great the first couple times I wore it, but, then I discovered that the hole for the strap on the left side was starting to come apart, and the end of the outer apron was starting to fall apart at the bottom. Had my local kiltmaker (North Channel) take care of it. Ever since then, it has been just fine. In fact, after Al G. gets back from his trip down here, everyone will finally be able to see said kilt.
Oh, btw, not to go off on a tangent here, but Al got his phone call yesterday... He's employed again. So, looks like the positive energy that we were giving him helped.

Love Overland Park. I have a very good friend that lives there. I visited the area about 2 years ago.
I ordered some stuff from Higgins, and the service was great, and the item was received within 2 days.

Got my lovely Argyll jacket from them. Good price at the time, but I had to swap a 52 for a 54-inch chest despite the fact that mine's only 50. Asked for flat epaulets, no problem; asked for buttonholes to hide my paunch, cut 1/2 inch instead of 3/4 inch. Denim twill wearing like iron with a rare brushing; can't imagine how hot Barathea must be. Thinking about ordering a 54 Tall to really hide my paunch.

I've mentioned on here months ago some sporran I got from them. Wasn't the best, though it wasn't that expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. Still, I've been tempted to get their diced hose, because I love the look, but I've heard that theirs just don't last.

I hope I won't regret ordering my first tank from him...Would love to hear of some more recent orders to see what folks think.

My tank is a year and a half old and came from Higgins. I can't find any fault with it, but I'm not an expert. Still, it is lovely material, solid workmanship, and seems a very high quality garment. Comparing it with my mother's first kilt (hand sewn in Scotland back in the 60s) the Higgins comes out ahead in solidity, feel, and outright macho factor.
I also ordered my new bagpipe through Higgins. There was a slight problem (wrong reeds) and he sorted it out right away. I'd be willing to bet that any problems with his products would be dealt with properly. I've been happy with both transactions I've done there.

Anyone tried their argyle (matched to tartan) hose? At $45 they seem like a good deal.
