Modern take on an old classic
Here are a few pictures of a kilt I was commissioned to make.
He wanted a Blackwatch kilt, but made like the modern style kilts.
Here it is, complete with Cargo Pockets.
Traditionalists, click away now....
Sporran, Yes it is pleated across the length
and with cargo pockets that are removable.
I was skeptical when I started, but it kind of grew on me.
I think I will have to make myself one now.

I was skeptical when I started reading but that looks quite nice. Good job! Where's mine?
I may have to make myself one of these now.

This does look quite interesting, will you post a shot of the pleats on your customer when he picks it up?

Sure. He already has the kilt, I took it to him yesterday.
He is going to an event this week and is going to send pictures to me.
I will post one when he does.

Yeah, and notice it is reverse king aussie pleated as well.
Totally modern version right down to the narrow apron.
It wears nice though and I kind of like the looks.
Oh, and if interested, it is made with the cheapo poly/rayon stuff from Joann's.
First time I have ever tried working with a tartan or that material.

I hadn't noticed the pleating arrangement until you mentioned it, looks great to me. How was working with poly/rayon stuff, did you like it? I went back to 11 ounce after working with 16 ounce and it was as different as night and day.

This was the first time I had ever worked with this type of material.
Unlike you, I haven't worked on any other heavy stuff to compare it to.
This was the first tartan kilt I ever worked on.
I have only made modern type kilts, usually out of Poly/Cotton blends.
In fact, I don't even own a tartan kilt myself yet.
I bought some in a different tartan to make myself one.
I think it is just a fashion tartan, not really sure.
I just bought one I liked the looks of.
They only had 4 yards of it, so I am going to try to box pleat it and see how it comes out.
I will post some pictures when I get a chance to work on it.

I really like that idea [and intend to steal it forthwith]. Thanks for sharing!

Good job.
I like that pleating also. I'll have to try that on a future kilt.
