Quest for a tartan

I'm currently hunting for some Quebec tartan. It's kinda rare, and I've only ever seen it in 10oz. I would prefer it being 100% wool, and I'm not sure whether to make it 4 or 8 yds. I think it would look better pleated to stripe, but I'm not sure to box- or knife- pleat it. And does anyone know good Canuck kiltmakers(to save customs and shipping mostly)?

There appears not to be any tartan shops in Quebec City, which is hardly surprising .

I can get you the Quebec Tartan in both 13 and 16 oz. Scottish Wool.

Cost are $78.50 & $86.60 per yard respectively.

Please remember that the Quebec Tartan is an Asymmetrical Tartan and we will need to specify the fabric to be one continuous length.

Steve can definitely get you what you want.

The thing is if a tartan is registered, and isn't restricted or has a copyright that states only specific individuals can reproduce the tartan then there would definitely be mills out there that can weave it for you. Like McMurdo said though we have many Kilt Merchants on this site that should be able to get you want you want.

I'd visit the above sites that McMurdo listed and find which style you prefer the most and contact that maker via email and let them know that you're interested.

That is a really nice looking tartan by the way. If you have it made you'll definitely have to post some pictures of it.

The way I understand it, Canada, being a member of the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement(?) Area(?) anything made by a member nation can move freely w/o paying any tarriff. I also was led to understand that Canada, being part of the UK's commonwealth of nations, has a similar agreement. Hence some USA companies buy tartan material through a Canadian source, and import it duty free, rather than deal with the hassle of importing it directly to the US.

That said, I am also a firm believer in helping out my fellow countrymen, so I would go along with Steve at Freedom Kilts. Sounds like he can help you best.
