    Movie accents

One of my favorite movies is "Boondock Saints". My friends and I watch it almost every week. Ok, so we don't really watch it, but we put it on in the background when we're hanging out on the weekends. Anyway, last night we were talking about their accents and how they only speak with a (bad) Irish accent part of the time, as if the actors just kinda forget that their characters are Irish. I was thinking, to all the Scots on the forum, what are some good Scottish accents in movies. Which non-Scottish actor does the best Scottish accent? Mike Meyers, Liam Neeson, Mel Gibson, Alec Guinness, etc. Who's the best and worst?

To be fair to the awesomeness that is that movie, they're not speaking pure Irish accented English. They're on with the bastardized conglomerate that is a Boston Irish accent.

Irish native accents are so varied anyway, that there is a lot of forgiveness allowed in my opinion.

I enjoy seeing Robert Duvall as a Scottish Fitba' Boss, in A Shot of Glory.
He is Magic, not only his accent guid but his mannerism are amazing.
He is terrific actor, and is Tops in so many pictures.

Yes, he's form Co. Down, but I'm asking about Scottish accents. I can already tell a good Irish accent from a bad one.

Most of the characters in Braveheart did an admirable job.

I'm thinking of the actor who played Uncle Argyll especially. Nice work!

Uncle Argyll should have a good Scottish accent as he was played by Brian Cox, a good Scottish actor.

As far as accents go, I think Alec Guinness as Maj. Jock Sinclair did a wonderful job in Tunes of Glory. The worst accent, though it was not Scottish, well perhaps it was, would be Sean Connery in the Hunt for Red October.

If memory serves Sean Connery was the captain of a Russian submarine and wasn't trying to be Scottish. Not a great Russian accent perhaps but he is Scots.

That was exactly my point, I did have on the post the worst Russian accent I've ever heard but decided to take it off.

Percy Herbert as Regimental Sergeant Major Riddick in Tunes of Glory. A superb west highland accent!
