    Kilted at Octoberfest

So the Sonoran Scotsmen had an eventful day this last Saturday. Retro Red and myself were out at the Arizona Irish Festival during the day, we had a formal kilted dinner with the clan at night, and some of us headed over to the local Octoberfest celebration that was happening down the street from the restuarant that we had dinner at.

Here a picture of Retro Red at the AZ Irish Festival

Here's the whiskey we got to enjoy at the Bushmills whiskey tasting.

This is the only decent picture that was taken at dinner.

Having pints and good conversation with some people at Octoberfest

And a group photo with one of the bands that was playing after they got done on stage. All in all it was a great day day

    Slainte!

Sorry for the delayed reply; I've been off-the-hook this week...

Yep, at the Irish Festival I was wearing the Ancient MacGregor that I acquired from Ardchoille. I thought that tartan was quite appropriate for an Irish Festival seeing as the primary colors are the Orange & the Green.

For the evening event I wore my Robertson Hunting.

Thanks. The Sonoran Scotsmen dinner was promoted as a "Formal Dinner," so I came formal (rather than normal - whatever normal is...).

You got that right! Irish Festival (I even got to perform) with a great Irish whiskey tasting, nice dinner with plenty of other kilties & Oktoberfest with cute college girls wanting their picture taken with us. <contented sigh> I was a happy man!

Thank you. I too have heard them referred to as daywear colors, but I just thought it went better with the tartan than black.

As a mobile DJ, I've played the Chicken Dance at more wedding receptions than I care to count - even in French, "La Danse des Canards."

I can't explain how it became a popular wedding reception dance any more than I can explain how a Jamaican Disco song (The Electric Boogie, AKA The Electric Slide) became a popular dance at cowboy bars.
Evidently, in an era when few people know how to dance, it's simple & easily learned motions are appealing. It sure ain't because it's so sexy!

Yeah, you were definitely the most formal of the group. And thank you for that. I wore a nice vest and tie, but most of the other Sonoran Scotsmen just wore button up shirts, which was a bit of a dissapointment. I had asked them to all at least wear a tie for the evening, but oh well it was still a grand time.

After I purchase my tank either County Cavan or the Sonoran Scotsmen Tartan if we get that moving again, I will also be purchasing a full dress kit like the one you wore.

Fun! I'll be kilted at an Oktoberfest for the first time in two weeks. I've been lederhosened many times, but never kilted...
