Fraser Hunting Muted

I got that phone call from the man in the kilt shop this morning. Just four weeks from placing my order the Jonesing was over and so I went into TD9 Tartans this afternoon to collect my new kilt.

Fraser Hunting Muted, 8 yards of 13 oz weave from House of Edgar, built by the local kiltmaker, with matching flashes. This kilt commemorates my very small percentage of highland ancestry. I had one Irish grandparent and three Scottish ones, all from Paisley weaver families who seem to have intermarried through several generations. Going back far enough I finally got to a Highland lineage, way back in my father's mother's family. William Fraser was a master shoemaker in Inverness in the late seventeen hundreds. He married Jean Henderson and one of their daughters, Margaret Fraser, born in 1800 travelled to the lowlands where she married Francis Tait, a weaver from Paisley.

The Pleats. I am not sure why the two belt loops at the back are offset towards my right hand side.

Looks great Alex, congratulations on the new kilt wear it well. Upon a second look I wonder about the white vertical stripe not being centered, I think if it were and the loops were repositioned you'd be set.

Looks to me as if the white stripe should be centered on front apron. That would put the loops back toward center rear, too. Although not sure where the opening would end up. . .

Oooh, lookit all the pleats! What beautiful colors in that tartan, lovely! I like the navy shirt and hose with it as well. Congrats, and thanks for sharing with us

Thanks for the tip, Sydnie7, you are quite right, with the white stripe centred at the front the belt loops are centred at the back. Here is a re-take of the photos with the kilt turned round accordingly.

and the profile shot, showing where the fringe ends up, maybe a bit further round than on some of my other kilts but perfectly acceptable.

The kilt looks great, Alex. The fringed edge looks fine where it is. Wonderful autumn colors as well. This time of year the muted tones really appeal to me for some reason.
