Kirkin' o' the Tartans in Phoenix

All Saints' Episcopal Church in Phoenix will hold its annual celebration of The Episcopal Church's Scottish roots with Samuel Seabury Sunday on November 16. The 10:00 am service will include music by the Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band, and include a Kirkin' o' the Tartans.

The public is welcome. All Saints' is located at 6300 N Central Ave, Phoenix AZ.

Neat church, right down the road form some of my old digs in Smogville. Some of the Padres used to wear them monk's robes...unbifurcated...

    Todd,

Hope that both you and Thunderbolt can make it! The more the merrier. It should be fun.

We should plan a time to get together.

Been thinking of that, too, Frank. Being at the 'Kirk' depends on what happens Saturday night- my wife's birthday (friday actually)- she has been talking of heading over to Liz Doon Varna to catch music Saturday night. I have thought about putting out a general invite, but she hasn't made her mind up yet, and I would hate to not show up when other have come out especially- I trust you might see the dilemma. Being as it is her call, because it is her birthday celebration, and me being the driver designate and not knowing how late... can't say how getting up on Sunday might be, but I ramble. So, I'll let you know post haste as soon as I can and without being redundant and saying things twice! Sheesh!

Well, I think I'll just have to show up & check this out, seein' as how I've never been to a Kirkin' o' the Tartans before & Central Ave just a little north of Bethany Home isn't too far away.

Is this a fairly formal ceremony? Like, Prince Charlie outfit type formal?

Also, what's the occasion? I can't think of any Scottish holiday or event around this weekend. I would think something like this would be more appropriate in a couple weeks on St. Andrew's Day (Nov. 30th), the patron saint of Scotland.

Anyway, thanks for letting the local Rabble know about this. I'll look forward to seeing you this Sunday morning.

November 14th is the anniversary of the consecration of Bishop Samuel Seabury, the first American Episcopal Bishop:

Yes, how formal is the service? I've been puzzling over that myself.
