    I'm giving thanks here

I was undecided about wearing the kilt today. We were having my Lady's father, brother, sister-in-law and nephew over for Thanksgiving dinner. They are fairly Orthodox Jews, and very conservative in outlook. Sure, its my home, but there is a concept in Judaism called Sholon Beyit, which literally translated means peace in the house, but is somewhat deeper. Don't make an issue in the family if you can avoid it. My in-laws had never seen me kilted, and as far as I know, were unaware I wore kilts. Reading some of the other threads in here had made me a little nervous. Anyway, the only comment was my brother-in-law when he came in the door, looked me up and down and said "You didn't need to dress up for us." Everything went well, Thank G-d.

One other thing I am thankful for is this community. I have not been an XMarkser for very long, but I do feel part of a very real community. Ron, you wrote on another thread about the Men's Movement. I believe it is alive and well at X Marks the Scot. Thank G-d for you Guys and Gals.

Sounds like your wife's kin were also practicing Sholon Beyet.

    Wonderful that all went smoothly...

Geoff, I'm happy to here that all went well for Thanksgiving dinner, and that the kilt was a non-issue. That should make it all the easier for you the next time you wear a kilt and you are all together.

XMarks is indeed a great community. It's like having a world wide family of friends that wear kilts. The moderators do an exceptional job of keeping Xmarks one of the best forums on the internet.

I will join you in giving thanks for good family. My mother in law wants to see me in my Black Stewart more often. And yes, we are a part of a very real community here.

I'll second that. It's easy to get carried away with the thrill of the debate on occasion but it's re-assuring to know that the moderators are watching out for everyones interests.

Geoff. Glad it all went well.

My mother-in-law actually likes me to wear the kilt. My T-day was spent at her house, where all was well, except for her really mean spirited sister. On the whole the holidays are usually good times.

Geoff, I am cheered that all went well with your family event. I also had the pleasure of going to Thanksgiving Dinner at my in-laws kilted. This was the first time many of them have seen me in the kilt. It was a real non-issue. Three of them asked about the tartan, and that was all. A great day.

    Goeff,
I'm glad your day went well and everything was harmonious. Ours was great as well. My daughters inlaws came with them and we all had a great time.
