After coming home from the shops today with yet another unplanned purchase of a kilt I thought it was maybe time to take stock. I counted exactly forty kilts hanging up in wardrobes (closets), plus the one I am wearing, plus the two I am currently jonesing for makes a total of 43, which is precisely forty more than the three kilts which I owned when I first joined Xmarksthescot three years ago. In other words I have been acquiring kilts at the rate of more than one per month for the past three years. There are twelve serious 8-yard kilts, of which six are heavyweight tanks and six are the lighter 13oz weight. To this needs to be added various lightweight wool, PV and acrylic kilts, Union Kilts, a Freedom Cargo kilt, a Utilikilt, a Blaklader, a USAK semi-trad and various casual kilts and other kilt inspired MUGs. Such a waste of good kilts having them hanging up patiently waiting to be worn, when I can only wear one at a time. I am too busy wearing my kilts to ever wear trousers these days.

It is only an addiction when your kilt purchases interfere with your other responsibilities, and I doubt that is happening. You are not addicted, just a bit obsessed perhaps like the lot of us on this site.

I feel your pain! I got my first kilt a little over 3 months ago... I currently have 11 kilts in house, a USAK casual "off the rack" (from their sale offer) in transit that should be arriving today, and a USAK semi trad on order that should be here sometime this month. That's 4 kilts per month for the past three months. And now that it's finally cooled down here in Northern California I'm realizing I need more wool kilts!!

I'm not only addicted, I'M NUTS!! Woo Hoo!

I just got the Robertson Ancient Hunting and I am definitely calling it quits right about there. Seriously. I'm going to get rid of a couple of my "starter" kilts and two jackets. I may go for another sporran (probably a Thorfinn) next year and maybe get a duplicate of my current kilt pin but I'm really going to try to bag it for a while.

I found the revelation that most Scots, if they have any kilts at all, may have one for "good" and that's all to be kind of ironic. Here are all of these other folks running around acquiring kilts by the dozens and the fellas in the "Old Country" seem to be content to have maybe one for good (and maybe one for knocking about if they have the inclination and the extra bucks).

The economy being what it is, an austerity program might not be the dumbest thing to embark on.

I'm not a Scot so my reasons for wearing the kilt aren't in any way associated with what the gents from the "Old Country" do or don't do.

But I hear you about the economy--that's why I'm not in any hurry to spend big bucks on a top o' the line tank.

I think I'm gonna call it quits at around 12-13. After that I make a rule...no new kilts unless I get rid of one I already have.

I have managed to slow down on the rate of new "fixes" but cannot say I will never ever succomb again after #25 which I am currently Jonesing for, arrives...

I thought I had got over the buying of fabric and would just be sewing kilts as and when I needed to - then I saw the artificial suede material and just had to buy some - even though I don't wear brown - but it will go with green - and it should look really good.
