    Arizona Strip Road Trip

About 115 miles west of me on the Arizona - Utah border is a place you can buy fresh cheese. Dairy country. Its delicious, unpaturized, and less than half the price of supermarket cheese. Just you have to come and get it.

The roads were clear but the snow was still on the red rocks and around the scrub sage. Cruised through Southern Utah then dropped down to the Arizona Strip...miles of nothing North of the Grand Canyon.

Wore my green argyle with Isle of Skye from Kathy Lare. Stopped a few places to soak it all in. Pipe Springs National Monument is a great stop. Its an old fort built over a natural spring where the pioneers made cheese. Seemed appropriate for a cheese run.

It was still VERY cold though...think the snow threw off the camera brain some. Picked these pics because they show the kilt best. Lovin' the argylls in this weather. Very warm. Had mine made-to-measure since my proportions are not off the rack. The jacket is from Lochcarron.

One of the old outbuildings of the fort.

Pleat shot of the Isle of Skye and the snow left on the red rocks.

Front shot at the catch pond beside the fort. Shirt looks sort of purple, but it isn't. Camera trick, its brownish.

And another pleat shot...I think...or is my kilt on backwards?

That jacket and the Isle of Skye kilt are a great combination, I really need to get a green tweed Argyll. Thanks for the pictures.

    Hey Ron,

Great fashion indeed. BTW, is the cheese factory at Colorado City? I've heard about some place up that way to buy it, but not sure where that is.

    Aye, Kennethrmc,

Will PM you info. Gotta follow the rules here so not being specific about the dairymen.

    Ron,

Great pics... One of these days, I gotta get back down to AZ. Haven't been there since '84, and getting tired of the Seattle area.

With respect to the camera getting confused, if you're taking photos with a lot of snow in the frame, I've found that opening the lens aperture 2 stops will help get the exposures correct. Either that, or choose a shutter speed that's 2 stops slower than what the meter recommends. Probably best to switch to manual mode and adjust the command dials yourself, instead of leaving it in automatic. Also, if you can find something that's middle-toned, like grass, you can meter off that, then recompose and take your photo.

Nice jacket Ron. I agree with Glen, the jacket goes well with the Isle of Skye.

Red rock, white snow, and the green Argyle,...perfect Christmas colors.

Great shots of the kilt with the red rocks, Ron! After we get back from Chicago for the Holidays we are going to Moab for a short hiking/snowshoeing trip. There are red rocks out that way also.
