Busking bagpiper shutdown by noise control
On the news here tonight...
In the councils defence (which is rare for me)
He was conducting it during busy hours in the heart of the CBD, and anyone who nows the Octagon will konw how easy the sound traels down the road...
worth a laugh but.

Bob - bureaucracy gone wild once more. Not only did it take place in Dunedin (Gaelic for Edinburgh for those who don't know) but beneath the statue of Robbie Burns! What a perfect setting for playing the pipes.
Must be great job being noise control with a little meter that records decibels. Rates right up there with _________________ (insert your own favorite redundant public 'service' job)

I know...but it hasn't always been Australian. It's actually a contraction of "God's Truth", and just last week I heard a gentleman in Powell & Pressberger's A Canterbury Tale, which was setin WWII era Kent, use the phrase.
So no offence meant to the Kiwis -- perhaps I should have said "I'm scunnered".

Hey no offence taken...
But tends to be a word used by the older gene of Aussies, and Kiwi's when we are trying to badly imitate the Aussie accent
Struth, cobber, digger, mate...(well, NZer's probably use the last one as much as Aus)

No worries -- she'll be right!
Can you tell I have some Aussie friends? But, to be fair, my lead instructor is a Kiwi -- she even brought me some shortbread from Invercargil (her hometown) for covering her classes the other day.

I bet the power they used was an obscure one that was never intended to include the bagpipes!
Mind you it's not as if piping is that easy to do in the original Dunedin (Edinburgh) these days either!
Perhaps the town needs to be renamed to "Dunpipin"!
