    Sporran noise -- Clippity-Clop....

No, this is not about a horse hair sporran, but rather the bovine variety. My hard leather day sporran has the usual 3 leather tassels. When I walk, the three tassels bounce against the sporran and the hard leather makes an ideal sound board. I sound like a horse clippity clopping along the path when I walk wearing this thing. Seriously, does anyone have suggestions to quash the noise or is it off to the glue factory for this sporran?

I sort of like the noise as it keeps me in cadence, but that is my personal choice.

I know that Hamish has suggested that some sort of sticky tack (not like thumb tack) be placed behind each tassel.

Rick, welcome to kiltdom! I had the same question in a prior thread and the answer is that a sporran is your own band! However, a small bit of scotch tape rolled into a cylinder will provide a simple way to attach the tassels. You could also look into sewing them down, but that takes more work.

A dab of silicon sealer on the back of each tassele to stick it down works great.

I, like Glen, like the drumming effect of the tassles. However, if you find it bothersome, I suggest removing them... I'm assuming that the flap will cover the holes. Done carefully, it should be possible to re-attach them at such future time that they are needed or appropriate. Alternately, purchase a cheap plain sporran with no tassles. To my way of thinking, the drumming of the tassles is no different than "zip-zip" sound of corduroy trousers or the swishing of a nylon jacket. I just don't think about it.

What can look good in the shop window-and be fine for occasional wear-can be a no no for day to day use.

I cut them off and am left with a smart leather sporran, think here the regimental plain sporrans.

Bubba, that is a great simple idea! My way requires new tape every week or so.

Glen, for normal around town, etc. I don't mind it, but in an office situation as you are walking around, all the cubicle dwellers poke their heads out to see what the noise is. The corduroy and nylon jacket usually are not loud enough for others to take notice.

I like the drumming sound, too. If you don't, go with Bubba's silicone idea.

They sell black silicone sealer in the automotive section of most big department stores.

I love the drumming effect of my first shop bought day sporran. However the click-click of antler isn't that bad either.

Blu Tack is whats best you can just remove it if you do find you like the sound or want to go in steath mode

I don't think I've ever noticed that problem and all my sporrans have tassels. Maybe it's a matter of experimenting with the height/location of the sporran. When I look at some of the posted pictures, I would disagree (to myself) with the placement.

BTW, one of the funny trivial things I've come across in my life is that tic tac, as I know it, is sold in different colours according to the country it's in. We're all talking about the same thing: it's white in Canada. I wouldn't use it for this.
