Dancing Kilt

Gareth Mitchelson, former World Champion Highland Dancer, does a 40step Highland Fling in aid of his son.
In competition 6 step Flings are the most steps a dancer would ever do. (Ok, ok, I'm sure that there's an 8 or even 10 step special trophy Fling, but really, that's out-of-the-ordinary). I'm working on my Gold Highland Dance medal and I have to do a 6 step Fling, 6 step Seann Truibhas, and a 4 step Sword, and I'm completely knackered after the Fling. So, Congrats to Gareth and a very well deserved: WELL DONE!!

I love watching the Fling. I had never seen a man dance it before now though. Now I have ammo to convince hubby that dancing in a kilt is cool.

Yes, we don't often get to see men in Highland dance these days. It's such a shame. My first competition was actually at a Canadian Championship and I remember the open-mouth awe as I watched male dancers doing the Seann Truibhas.

This young man is fairly good, and just shows the true power behind the highland dances. Women do a fantastic job doing the same dances (check out Colleen Rintamaki, 10 times World Highland Dance Champion doing the same dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI3OBDYezWo ), but I'd love to see more men dancing. Any takers? 
Did my medal test this morning. Got through all my dances (had to do a 5step Irish Jig as well as all the highlands and fill-in for a Reel) without fainting.

I agree, I believe that the kilt is simply wrapped around the dancer, and is following his movements!
