    Stag horn!

OK, next dumb "Where do I get" question for the more experienced DIY'ers... I've been, shall we say, racking my brain and searching the internet to find a source for stag horn for the dirks and sgain dubhs that I'm making. I can't find anything big enough for the dirks. So- where do I look?!?!

All the above. There are many, many antler suppliers. The more you buy, the cheaper it is.

Search e-bay for "antler" = many hits!

Seartch google for "antler" and "knife making supplies" = many, many, many hits!

Talk to your hunting friends. Talk to local game wardens. Talk to local taxidermists. Talk to store clerks where they sell hunting supplies. Try Craigs list. Post a card in hunting stores. etc. etc. etc.

    NH,

way2fractious was able to get a beautiful elk antler on ebay so they are out there.

I took that antler and made him a dirk to match a sgian dubh he already had.

A few words of warning about using large antlers for a corona handled weapon...

They can be heavy! (Think short sword instead of knife!)

As you can see I had to make almost a sword frog to keep the knife handle at the angle he wanted it.

I thought it came out neat, but boy that end is like a club!

    Cheers

Take a drive up US36 from Lyons on weekends. You'll see a van parked in oneof the turn outs for those too scared to drive the speed limit. They usually have a pile of elk antlers there for sale. I haven't seen them yet this year but, they will be there once the tourists start. Have no clue on how much they want but you should be able to find all you need.

I didn't think to search for antlers... I've been searching for elk horn, stag horn, knife making, etc, and haven't found anything other than scales with those search terms. I was just using the wrong word... Thanks, folks!!

Go get a stag. Hunting season is usually in the spring and fall.
