I made a walking stick (redux)

At Panache's request, I am reposting this as one thread rather than the two that I mistakenly created the first time around.

I made myself a walking stick. Does this count as a cromach?

First I cut the crown off of a small antler

Then I drilled holes in the base of antler and top of stick. Started with a small pilot hole and enlarged it to 3/8 inch. The second small hole is for a stabilizing pin to prevent rotation

I cut the head off a ¼ inch carriage bolt about 3 inches long

I had never seen this type of nozzle on 2-part epoxy. It has baffles that mix the glue as it travels through to the tip. This allows you to insert the nozzle into the bottm of the hole and fill from the bottom up. No partially filled holes for me.

While the glue was setting I cut and soaked a strip of rawhide, punched some holes, and laced it loosely.

When the glue had set I whittled and shaved until the bottom of the antler and the top of the wood were well-approximated. Then I slid the still-wet rawhide tube up over the join, and tightened and tied the lacing. When the rawhide dried it formed a reinforcing collar, and a nice finished look. I snipped off the lace ends after drying/

Two coats of polyurethane to preserve the antler, a couple of skunk tails for froo-froo, and voila!

Nice stick there Turpin. I'm working on one that I found at the beach last weekend. It will be a low frills model as I have no experience in woodworking.

This one was made for me by Kilted Carver.

I did cut the bottom to a proper length for me, does that count?

Looks good Turpin. I'm glad that you're utilizing your tremendous talents in aiding the old and decrepid (in this case yourself, but that's still very honourable).
