    Harris Tweed sportscoats for conversion

Hi all! I know there are several members of this forum who like to take regular sportcoarts and alter them into kilt jackets.

I know there are probably also several more members of this forum who might like to try their hand at making such a jacket conversion.

I have recently come into a rather large stock of vintage men's Harris tweed sportcoats of varying sizes. I don't need them, and I have no money invested in them.

Therefore I make the following proposal. If you are interested in doing a jacket conversion (or if you just need a nice sportcoat), PM me with the size you are looking for. I'll let you know what's available in that size. If you want one, all I ask for is a $15 donation to the Scottish Tartans Museum (more if you like), plus the cost of shipping to your location.

    Sound fair?

I just got all of these delivered to me, and I haven't had a chance to go through and do an inventory of them all yet. They are vintage, meaning some might have some minor wear spots, etc. But they have all been dry cleaned and are in pretty good shape considering.

If you PM me, it might be several days before I reply to you (for one thing I'm getting ready to go out of town for three days). It may take me some time to go through them all and see what I have. But I will get back to you.

The lady who gave these to me just wants to see them go to good use.

    Aye,
    Matt

For those of you who have already PMed me, as I said previously I'm getting ready to be out of town for the next three days. And I won't be back in at the museum (where I have these stored) until Monday. And it may take me some time to sort through all of these to see what all sizes I have. So please be patient and allow me time to reply. But I'll PM you back and let you know what I have as soon as I can.

Anyone else, just send a PM if you are potentially interested and I'll answer them all on a first-come, first-serve basis. :-)

An update for all who have PMed me. I finally got done yesterday sorting all the jackets by size. I will tell you that I have a ton from sizes 38 up through 44.

If the size you requested is smaller or larger than this, either I only have a few in that size, or none at all. I will try to get PMs out to you today letting you know what's available.

For those requesting sizes between 38 and 44 there is such a large number that I'll have to figure out a good way to get the info to you. I'm thinking what I will do is to pull out specifically those jackets that are more suitable for a kilt jacket conversion (with a higher lapel), and then photograph these in batches to post for you to select from.

    Stay tuned for further updates!

I've been PMing a bunch of you about this and I know a lot of you are currently waiting on pictures of the jackets.

We are currently very busy at the museum getting ready for our annual Taste of Scotland festival (June 20, tomorrow!) in Franklin. Plus I've had family visiting all this week on top of that. So I apologize that I haven't had time to get any decent photos. (I actually got time to take some, which turned out crappy, so I'll have to reshoot them).

Anyway, this is just to say that I haven't forgotten about the pictures, but it will likely be next week before I get them done. Thanks for being patient!

    Update:

Rather than email a bunch of people a kajillion attachments, I've decided to upload photos of these jackets to a Picasa Web album.

    Here's the link:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/scottishtartans

The albums are broken down by size. Right now I have everything that I have 42 and larger up there. I'll be photographing the smaller sizes soon, hopefully tomorrow.

If you see one you like, let me know the picture and whether it's the R or L jacket (I photographed two per picture).

I haven't measured sleeve length on all of these, but if you need me to just ask.

I'll send a PayPal invoice for the one you want. Feel free to get as many as you need! I'd like to move these.

    Thanks!
    Matt

Neat-o. Looks like the two 46s are already gone. For 15 bucks I'm tempted to try a 44...
