Speaking of which, can anyone recommend some decent camping in the vicinity (say, within an hour's drive if not closer)? I will have a sedan, a tent, canopy, and a couple of folding chairs. No way to cook. My main requirement is that there be bathing facilities within walking distance and that they be not gross.
Thanks for your advice.
Regards,
Rex.

Rex camp on the mountain, there is no better experience. You are a short walk from all the activities. Click here.

Rex, try to google "camping boone" or "camping linville".
There are several campgrounds within striking distance. The disadvantage to staying off the mountain, either in some other campground or a motel, is the hassle you have to go through to get to the games. Drive to Linville, park and pay, use the bus and pay, get to the games late and have to leave early to catch the bus. And I'm not sure what you do to go to an eveniing concert.
The bathing facilities at the campground are close, depending on where you end up pitching your tent. But the hot water runs out EARLY and the showers I'm guessing would fit your definition of gross.
Most of us you camp for the week in anything but those $500,000 motor homes pretty much do without washing in general. Lends a certain "atmosphere" to the entire endevor.

Rex my friend;
I don't know about you, but my last camping was done in the 60's in S.E. Asia.
Swore never to do it again and haven't. My camping now is Holiday Inn Express,
Red Roof Inn,etc, etc, get the Idea. I'm a very early riser and always get to the games very early. If weather permits I may even ride my "Rune" this time.
Easier to get around on and park a motorcycle.
I am looking forward to this event as it appears there will be a good many XMarkers there.

I have thought of riding the VTX to games, but cant seem to keep the kilt from flyin up!
I would love to go, but I can only afford one major trip for games a year. This year is Tucson, get to compete with dear old Mom in the spectator seats. Kinda makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, huh!
Have fun all!

The secret is to be at the showers when they open at 7 AM. I've camped on the mountain on the cheap for three years and always had a hot shower and was squeaky clean. Yes, they are camp showers but I wouldn't call them gross. Also you can eat a the vendor tents; breakfast, lunch and dinner. CAMP ON THE MOUNTAIN! Don't miss the evening marshmallow fight betweem the family campers and late curfew campers! The Ceilidhs in the evenings are superb.

I'm considering it... we'll see how busy I am mid-summer.

We'll be on the same performing venue with Albannach, Coyote Run and Scythian. That's four good friends spending the entire weekend together.
Make sure to drop-in and have a few pints with us.
I always look forward to seeing everyone there... AGAIN.
