    picking a Tartan

Hello, I am looking to find the Tartan of my Scottish name, Dawson, My grandfather has told me that we are from Scotland i never did get to ask him what our family Tartan is, after doing some research i have found that Dawson is a part of Davidson, however there are many Davidson Tartans, which do i choose to celebrate my Scottish lineage?

    KWD,

I'll make you choice easy for you.

There are actually only two Davidson Tartans available.

The other Tartans listed are either Private, Dress versions (meant for ladies and dancers) or half and double Setts.

The only ones currently available from weavers without going the special weave route is

    Davidson ITI #1332
Available from Marton Mills in 16 oz. Modern Version.
And from Lochcarron in 10oz. in Modern & Ancient versions.
And from Lochcarron in 13oz. in Modern version.
And from Lochcarron in 16oz. in Modern & Ancient & Weathered versions.
And from House of Edgar in 16-17oz. in Modern version.
And from House of Edgar in 13oz. in Modern and Ancient versions.
Also from Batley but I don't have data from them.

And the Davidson of Tulloch ITI #1360
Available from Lochcarron in 10oz., Modern Version.
And from Lochcarron in 16oz. in Modern & Ancient & Weathered versions.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you all for the information, it is very helpfull.

I am getting married in August and it seems most of the places that rent Kilt outfits do not include Ghillie Brougues or Shirts, and most do not have a large selection to rent from at all.

has anyone every delt with Kiltrentalusa.com?

    how is their stuff?

I don't know about others, but I have never rented anything that deals with kilts. I have always bought. But as far as choosing the Tartan, I had that difficult choice to make when choosing the Family Tartan for my Dress Kilt and Fly Plaid. They cost the most and you want to be right the first time. It took me a while but once I decided I have never felt made a mistake about my choice.

If you are on a bit of a budget, buy your Davidson kilt, and rent your coatee. I've had excellent service renting from The Scottish Tartans Museum, and can give them an unqualified recommendation.
