Winter Hose Advice
Heading into my first kilted winter here in Michigan, I find myself searching for warm kilt hose. All the threads on cold weather kilt wear say: "good thick hose." Unfortunately I couldn't a post where examples where given.
After reading through the threads on kilt hose, it seems the Lewis hose are very popular for comfort and durability, while what little was said about warmth and thickness seemed to be conflicting.
So I turn to the rabble for advice. Are the Lewis hose the way to go for the subfreezing months? Will the standard 70% - 80% wool hose be warmer? If so where can I find a good thick pair?
Thanks to everyone for the many, many times I found the answer to my question without needing to make a post!

I sell Lewis hose. They are very warm as are most of the House of Cheviot's hose. I also offer a 10% discount to XMarkers and I'm not that far from you. (Ontario)

You might also search for "shooting stockings" or -socks. I've noticed that sometimes these come with extra thick soles and are pretty plush to begin with.

Try: "the almostunwearoutable sock company" I wear their thicker version out on the hill shooting and as kilt hose too. Not only do they, well, not wear out, they are also very warm.

I can vouch for Jock's suggestion. They make both 4 ply and 8 ply. I think they are some of the best hose out there.

I've tried two pair of my regular hose, green then red (coordinated when wearing my Maple Leaf). Makes for a new look when you fold the cuff over.

There is nothing that will compair to a pair of knitted wool socks. Alas, I only have one pair and use them sparingly.

Hearing all this--and other mentions--has forced me to purchase a pair of Lewis hose today at the Stone Mountain Games. I also got a pair of the traditional garters.
