"Wow, you're brave to wear that!"
I've been wearing kilts to the office on a pretty regular basis, so the other day when I was wearing a Royal Stewart I was surprised to have a co-worker look at me and say, "Wow, you're brave to wear that!"
Then he added, "Not too many guys will wear red ties these days."

I think most guys are afraid of color. They don't want to call attention to themselves. Wearing a kilt, by definition, calls attention to the wearer. Other concerns, like color, pale by comparison.

I have some "red" kilts, too, MacGregor, Royal Stewart and the less obtrusive Black Stuart. I like them, but I rather seldom wear them.

Geeeez...I wear red ties all the time. Not to be afraid of color, just be carefull about either too much color or color that doesn't become you...like red haired people wearing orange...and I'm sure that SOMEBODY is gonna take exception to that and post a picture of themselves with red hair and an orange kilt and say, "how can you say that?".
You just have to be careful....once in a while you can get away with the dark/black shirt and a lighter colored tie thing but sometimes you do that and look in the mirror and say to yourself, "I look like a chorus member from Guys And Dolls!" and you go back and change. You have to be careful. I recently went out wearing a green shirt and necktie with a black vest (waistcoat) and a green jacket. I happened to look at myself in a mirror and suddenly realized that I sort of looked like I was auditioning for the role of the Riddler in the next Batman movie...tooooo much green in one place.
And I, at least, have to be careful with red neckties...one of the places that I am wont to stop in for drinks has white shirt/dark red necktie/black vest (again:waistcoat) as the uniform for their bartenders and waiters. I have stopped in there dressed exactly that way and I have people coming up and expecting me to show them to a table. Just to be a wise guy, I should seat them and then tell them about the specials for the day and make all of them up and then take their drink order and leave. Half an hour later they're flagging down a waiter and asking what ever happened to their order...
Best
