"Where a man can wear a skirt proudly"

I flew up to Baltimore on Sunday evening for a rushed, last minute notice, business trip. I noticed a sign in the Atlanta airport I hadn't noticed before...

"Where A Man Can Wear A Skirt Proudly"
    Now with service to Edinburgh
    DELTA

I tried to get a picture with my cellphone camera, but it came out rather blurry.

A kilt wasn't appropriate for this trip, but I did stop in for a pint (or two) at "Tir Na Nogs" at the Inner Harbor. Next time I'm in the area and have more notice, maybe we can plan a kilt night...... that is of course if we have any XMarkers in the area.

Delta should be sued for inaccuracy!

They are perpetuating a common myth which is wrong as a kilt is NOT a skirt!

It is also an insult to Scots and Scotland implying it's a land of transvestites when it will have no more as a proportion of the country than anywhere else.

And the kilt is worn with pride in far more places than Scotland anyway.

I agree that calling it a skirt is inaccurate, but I see the sign as an amusing marketing ploy by Delta and nothing more. I don't think they are accusing Scotland of being full of transvestites, cross dressers, or anything else, nor do I think they are trying to insult anyone. Its merely an attention getter, and it worked!

Great marketing ploy. And most people will identify with it more readily.

And we are planning a trip to the UK soon, so maybe we will go through to Edinburgh! So it has accomplished its purpose of getting the word out.

Perhaps Americans don't see the precision of language the same as we do this side of the pond.

A Kilt is seen as a male garment and skirt is seen as a female garment. The fact that they may share certain characteristics does not make them equal or interchangeable as similies.

And I fear that people flying to Edinburgh on the strength of that ad could be disappointed at the scarcity of men in the streets actually wearing their "skirts with pride."
