Why are you not wearing your kilt?
I was at our neighbors house yesterday for a party during that big game on TV. I was wearing jeans. At one point, a couple walked over to me and the woman was grinning and the man asked me why I was not wearing my kilt. I had to pause, because I did not recognize them. I live in a fairly small town, and almost never am kilted in public locally (there is nothing to do here!) So I had to run through all the places I could have met these people. It took me a couple guesses to remember it. They knew me from a beer making club where I am very active.
Wearing a kilt makes others remember us more than we (or me anyhow) remember them!

It's kind of nice when wearing the kilt is expected.

I do not wear a kilt most of the time. But there are quite a few people who almost always associate me with my kilt. I don't know how many times I've been asked, "Where's the kilt?"

I dance with both a Scottish Country Dance group as well as a "Vintage" dance group (1820-1860's). I always wear my kilt when performing with both. For vintage wear a dress my uppers differently, but other than that it's the same. I got many questions as to "what happened to your kilt?" whenever I attended a Vintage ball in tartan trews.
When it's expected, then not seen, it tends to be missed. I've found that whether people are comfortable wearing themselves or not, they truly enjoy seeing other people in such fashionable garb.

Have noticed the same thing... and sometimes particularly from people who would never consider wearing the kilt themselves. There would seem to be a secret wish that they could, as much as they want to see it worn by someone else.

Well I am sure they expected you to be wearing your kilt while watching the Scotland Six Nations Rugby game.

Well, I was kilted all day yesterday, but I was watching Doctor Who instead of 'that big game'

I attended an event last week, trousered, and was asked that question by a man in a kilt whom I'd never met - it turned out that he had seen me kilted on the street, which he said inspired him to wear his own more often.

I find it helps in fostering a good relationship with merchants and other business contacts The kilt automatically sets you apart around here, which makes you easier to remember, and of one is polite and cheerful, nearly everyone responds in kind. This in turn makes an on-going relationship of any kind more pleasant, and more likely to succeed.
Saturday a young woman newly hired at the local hardware store inquired about the kilt, and said her husband wanted one. I directed them here, so that he could learn more and benefit from the resources available at XMTS.
Trousers are a necessary evil sometimes. I have to plow snow again today, and sitting on the no cab tractor with wind and snow kilted doesn't work too well.

I've told this story here before, but I love it so much that I just can't resist telling it again!
A collegue of mine was dating an actress that lives here in town (name withheld -- suffice it to say that she is an internationally known actress and spokesperson who chooses to live here rather than in Hollywood). I met them several times at local pubs, and they came to my house for our departmental Christmas party. Every time I saw them together I was kilted.
One day I ran to the post office between classes, and met her at the door as I was on my way out. In a loud voice she says "Bill, I didn't recognize you with pants on."
I was glowing for the rest of the day!
