My new Casual!

These pics are a few weeks old, just havent had a chance to post them. I had the opportunity to wear my new casual out and about for an entire saturday afternoon of shopping, hiking, etc. I received quite a few compliments and questions, and very very few strange looks (I was pleasantly surprised at that.) One lady did ask if I was Irish though!

the kilt is GREAT, and I am very happy with the quality. USA Kilts did a wonderful job!

one BIG caveat...this is the first time I have gone out kilted. I was striving to be as correct as possible (with lots of research and info from the internet), but I have no one local to instruct me on the "correct way."

first, this is the entire outfit (including "renaissance style" shirt, flashes, etc) that I will use for Ren Faires and such. (sorry for the camera angle! a little homebrew may have been consumed prior to this pic!)



The rest of these are hiking pics, so a little more casual. I was very happy with the warmth of the hose and kilt combined (the day was 45-50 degrees F)

Looking good for a first-timer. I own the same sporran and love it. I recommend you replace the chain with a leather sporran strap.

So long as you're not at a function of some kind, the 'correct' way to wear your kilt is with dignity. The particulars are up to you.

I have been thinking about doing this; I've been on the lookout while shopping with my wife for narrow black belts and such (with no luck). May have to break down and order the real thing.

You could look at a resale place like Goodwill (if you have one idk where all they are) or just any resale shop. You can find all kinds of stuff

I was in Wal-Mart, the other day and bought a womens belt, X-Large and it looks good on the sporran. As a bonus, it has one of those reversable belt buckles, and the belt is brown on the other side, so now when I get a brown sporran, I have a belt for it.

I agree with the looking good part, but why change to a leather belt instead of the chains? I personally like the chain. I have seen similar comments on a few other posts too. Is the chain too formal? I know it may cause some wear on the tartan fabric over time, but really only if you wear it daily, right?

Traditionally, yes, chain is for formal wear.

I don't know if I'd agree with that. I'd agree with the INVERSE that the STRAP is for 'less formal', but I've always had chain straps with all of my sporrans and have never felt 'overdressed' in them.
