    More Iceland field photos

    Hi all,

Just thought I'd post a few more pics from Iceland.

Part of the field area where I'm working:

Today, we stumbled across this pretty natural arch

and this fabulous little slot canyon

it was a really long day in the field - we didn't get back tonight until after 8 pm. But, the place we're staying has a fabulous "Viking Pool" that is filled with water about 98 degrees, so we had a good soak after cooking up dinner on our little MSR stove. And, on a clear day, you can sit in the pool and look straight out at the volcano Hekla.

Fantastic! My grand parents (on my Dad's side) were from Iceland, but I've never been there. One day.

A slot canyon and a natural hot tub, where will the blessings end? Seriously though, that is some beautiful country you are studying. Thanks again for sharing your photos with us.

    Barb,
Thanks for posting these great photos. The landscape is beautiful and almost alien looking. I've never been to Iceland but it's shots like these that make me want to travel there. Please post more photos. Have you encountered many hikers there?

....I just found some of your other pictures that you put up on earlier posts! Fantastic scenery again.

None in the actual area where we're working. It's an area that's not all that far from a 4WD road, where we see quite a few SUVs, but there are no hiking trails where we're working. We don't even see footprints! As you can see, you can go just about anywhere you want (although we were temporarily derailed yesterday by a set of 40' cliffs in the gully we were hiking down), and you don't really need trails to get around, but the place we're working isn't an obvious place for people to park and head off into the back country. So, no, we don't see anyone else all day.

Fabulous pics Barb, a stunning capture of Iceland's magnificent scenery, a happy reminder of my visit to Iceland in 1976.
