Kilted Class Reunion
Last night was my 35 year high school class reunion. Yes -- I went kilted.
There are a number of reasons for this. One is that someone has to be the one is the shocker at these sort of things. Second is, my wife encouraged me. And third, it was held at a place, a country club, were I caddied as a teen. It was the worst summer of my life. Back then, as now, I was the odd duck. Cool before my time, I like to think. So I was a target of ridicule from the other caddies. And even though my parents were friends with many of the member of this club, they themselves weren't members, and therefore, I could not go certain places on the grounds.
So last night, filled with pride about who I am, with the love of my life on my arm, I walked, kilted, through those forbidden front doors, and the staff there had to cater to me.
As to my classmates reaction -- it was totally positive. It was said -- "you always were the unique one, and only you could pull this off. good for you!"
And so -- another successful kilted outing. Only rubbish thing -- one of my hose slipped down!

Last night was also my 35th high school reunion. Happy 35 to you. This was a casual event for us so I wore my American Heritage tartan USAKilt with a red shirt. I was sure this would surprise some of my former classmates but I figured it would be a good ice breaker. My class size was over 500 and this crowd was not the group I hung around with. We had about 175 at the event. I expected to be the only one in a kilt. Well I was wrong (second time this weekend). So now I spotted kilt number three in the wild in Dayton, OH. One of my classmates, that I did not remember, was wearing a contemporary kilt. I am not sure who it was made by. I wanted to talk to him to find out who he was. Was not sure if he was a classmate or a spouse of a classmate. He was on the other side of the floor and by the time I got over there he was gone. Someone else told me who he was and that he was unable to stay for the event. He was a classmate but I don't remember him. I sent him an email via Facebook so I will see if he responds.
The kilt was a great ice breaker at the reunion. As the evening went on and the ladies were influenced by a little alcohol it got even better! Gosh, in high school if someone told them that 35 years in the future they would be asking Mike what he had under the kilt they would have up-chucked at the thought.

Now I need to attend a reunion in a kilt!
Let’s see – I finished high school in 1967. I’ll probably have to go to the 2012 get-together to make it a round-ish number (45 years).
Thanks for the stories, guys.
Regards,
Mike

This Saturday is my 40th class reunion. To get enough people to show up, we invited the two classes before us and the two classes after us. My ex "graduated" in the class behind me. Oh, Yes, whe will be there with her husband. But my wife has lost over 100 lbs and she will be on my arm and I will be kilted. I am a little nervous and threatened not to go, but class members have encouraged me to attend. So attend I will. I will post pictures, and there will be pictures on my facebook page. I too had a class of over 500 people. But this was arranged with short notice and the economy has a lot of people struggling. Fun will be had, and I will have it!
