Hiding Christmas Presents
My daughter got home from college today and I had to rush to hide one of her Christmas presents. I was stuck for a place to hide it but had one of those eureka moments and though that I would share it with all of you parents..
...using flawless logic, I hid it in the cabinet where we keep the extra rolls of toilet paper...because, as any parent knows, your kids have NO IDEA WHERE the T.P is and we have to go get replacement rolls whenever it runs out!
Best

Anyone ever lose a present that way? By hiding it TOO well? As in... You're cleaning out the hall closet and you come across an unopened toy in a box and you realize: "Oh, crap! I hid that gift to give to my kid for Christmas.... 10 years ago!!! " (Just a silly, random thought I had as I was reading the thread)...

I've lost normal everyday things that way, much less presents. I've just recently done this with a replacement pack for my electric razor.
"I'll put this here so I'll be able to find it when I need it. It makes sense to put it here because this is where I normally look first for replacements(/parts/whatever, or store the item) anyway."
... three/six/ x number of months later ...
"Now where did I put that thing!?!? I thought I put it in a safe, logical place so I wouldn't forget it!?!"

Happens at my house all the time. Kids are all grown and gone, youngest grandkid is 6, so my wife and I have scaled back the Christmas decorations a bit. Went to a pre-lit artificial tree a couple of years back. This year our son and his family are moving over the holidays, and are spending Christmas with us. In honor of the occasion, all stops have been pulled out as far as decorating goes. We have a 10' tall, very full, fresh cut tree in the front room, and numerous boxes of decorations have been pulled out of "retirement". My wife found several gifts and decorations that she's picked up over the years, and put away so well she couldn't find them. The crowning moment was when she came across 3 gifts she had bought for our children back in 1986. Since they'll all be here this year, we can give them out now. Only 24 years late.
All skill and effort is to no avail when an angel pees down your drones.

As you get older you just stop worrying about such things, and if the little gray cells do fail, it is other people who are bothered by it, believe me.
Another good place to hide things is wherever you put the vacuum cleaner, another location not visited by the offspring.

To all those in the last few posts who have put things in a safe place for "later on" and forgotten, she that must be obeyed has the perfect excuse for it. She refers to my forgetfullness as a "seniors moment"

My father's sister once made a pan of cornbread for the Thanksgiving dressing. At Christmas she decided to make another pan of it, but couldn't find her frying pan. She looked in the oven where, lo and behold, there was the frying pan with Thanksgiving's cornbread still in it.
The Mrs. and I recently moved and found all sorts of things I had no idea we owned. (Some of it is worth having.)

Anne,
A wonderful idea however useless at my home, my youngest grandson, a strapping lad of 2 has as his favorite toy, the vacuum. likewise the broom trying to put the vacuum away causes an epic sized tantrum and I expect he will do quite well at quiddich as he can ride a broom better than Harry Potter.
