Senera is from Spotsylvania! Click here.
EDIT: Unfortunately, I jumped the gun, and the winner Foxcliffe 'Hickory' Wind hails from Warrenton, VA. Congrats, Hickory!

The Best in Show judge, whose first language is not English, says, "Scottish Deerhound ... is exactly the same like I studied in the standard that was about 150 years ago. Outstanding dog. Moving and type was super. All the others were wonderful."

I watched the "Sight and Scent" Hound division the first night with my son and we both thought the Scottish Deerhound was very regal and the likely winner of the hound group, except for its rarity. Was not surprised when he did win. Missed the rest of the show but am pleased with the outcome. He is a beautiful dog. Surprising that both the group and show judges were so well versed in the criteria for a relatively "obscure" breed that they recognized near perfection. But quite pleased. yes quite.

Ern, do you know if "the champion" was at the Meadows games last year? I can remember seeing a couple of the breed there.
"A day spent in the fields and woods, or on the water should not count as a day off our allotted number upon this earth."

saw a reporter, talking to one of the participants, on the TV news last night; she estimated that it took at least $50,000 to get a dog to the show , and at least $1,000,000 to get a winner .... that's a lot of ____

That's a lot of kilts!
And the NYT notes "Hickory takes over the Best in Show title from Sadie, a 4-year-old Scottish terrier." Seems to be a theme here?
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].

Sad to say, this sort of big win always generates a lot of puppy farm activity and hurts the breed big time. But it is a sort of Scottish victory!
