Security check at Dublin Airport
As I previous thread, I was in Dublin last week for the Eire v Scotland footbal match.
The security check at Prestwick was no problem but at Dublin airport on the return flight, it was almost pantomine proportions with so many kilted Scots.
I was probably lucky that I was just given a fairly thorough frisk, which if had been any longer could have amounted to sexual assault but other kilties in different check in lanes were asked to remove their belt, sporrans, and had their flashes on their stocking checked as well as being asked to remove their footwear, i suppose you must have security

I'll bet they'd never seen anything like it in a long while. I once saw half the Tartan Army passing through Manchester Airport. That was a sight to behold I'll tell you. You should have got some pictures Jimmy...

i didn't take any pictures but there will be on the tartan army websites as you say, the tartan army in full flow is always a great tourist attraction where ever they are

I guess a lot of security officers get worried about something different to their everyday experience.
At Prestwick it wouldn't be strange. At Swords more out of the ordinary. When it's a massed onslaught this would only make staff all the more wary.
Possibly gave them good experience in specialised security techniques.

When I fly kilted I always take off my belt and sporran for the security check.
Depending on its size, the kilt pin usually needs to come off also.

As i say i was lucky with just being frisked albeit quite intensive, bit of an assault i think if you are kilted, i don't think a woman would have been frisked so thoroughly but it was preferable to have to take belt, sporran and footwear off, i always hate going thru airport check points where you almost have to strip. but it was comical to see dozens of kilted guys without shoes, boots, belts and sporrans, some with a drink in them getting their kit back on

I do that as well - and I also get asked to remove my boots quite often. But that's fine, security checks at airports are a necessary evil, and there's no point getting in a stew about it. If you prepare properly, the delay is minimal, and if a security guard insists on patting me down, that's a fairly minor inconvenience as well. A security guard once told me a trick for not triggering the metal detector, though; if you twist the kilt so that the buckles are at the front and the back, the alarm won't go off

Well, thank you for that. I've pretty much stopped travelling these days; not taken a trip anywhere we couldn't drive in 6 years or so. But, if I do pluck up the courage to fly again, I'll try to remember your advice.

When I flew Dublin to Glasgow a few years ago, there wasn't a single security check at either end. Not even a passport check....

Well I left Buchanan Street coach station going to Galway via Stranraer and Larne ferry and had an extreme security check a few years back. Not a fun experience.
