At least the real Canucks fans were polite enough to offer an apology.
Sadly, I think the results would have been the same win or lose.
I guess you just need a few championships in a city before the police figure out how to manage a crowd.

The apology is a nice gesture, but unfortunately, this claim is victim to the No True Scotsman fallacy.

The results would have been the same, win or lose. A select few brought molotov cocktails downtown long before the game even started. They were intent on starting something.
It happens everywhere though and I don't think any number of championships a city might have, they just can't prepare for everything.
Boston is a prime example; when the Patriots won the Super bowl (and they have won a few) a riot ensued and people died.
I will never understand the mentality of these thugs. Our local TV station kept referring to them as protesters. What could they have possibly been protesting????
A sad day indeed...

Not to take this too far off-topic, but just to set the record straight:
If you're referring to Victoria Snelgrove's death, that was after the 2004 ALCS, and she was unintentionally shot with a pepper-spray canister thanks to a member of the BPD who was subsequently suspended from the force because of the incident.
That is the only fatality that I'm aware of happening in Boston during our city's recent championship run.

I was downtown last night and saw the police managing the crowd. They did a great job actually. There's this thing that happens in this city that I've not seen in any other Canadian city. Hooligans from the burbs come downtown (and it's always ever only the downtown core that thy come to) to cause problems. there have been a hundred arrests already and there's a facebook campaign to identify the trouble makers. Seriously, in the 21st century when everyone has cameras in their phones, what did they think they were going to get away with? These people are morons.
Well played Boston. You deserve it.

You should pay more attention to what happens in Montreal...
