Got my new hose
Hi all,
One more step to having a complete custom kit. Just got a set of hose made for me by piperdbh. A while back we discussed custom cuffs for hose and it got off on the idea of military ribbons being the pattern for the cuff.
I liked the idea so much I contacted piperdbh to see what we could do. Went back and forth choosing the best ribbon that would work for the cuff. Decided on the Southwest Asian Defense that I earned while on Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Kuwait Liberation. Matched it with Navy (of course) blue cable hose.
Just got them in today and they are quite nice -

I'm sure that it won't be universally excepted but I like them

I'm glad they arrived safe and sound, and a day early, too!
For anyone interested in the technical stuff:
Drac left the designing of these hose up to me, and to honor his service in the US Navy I decided to make them as nautical as I could, so I worked in cables and chains. They're separated by moss stitch, with the calf increases worked in evenly around the sock, not just in the back. These hose are made of sock-weight merino worked on size 1 (US) square-shaft double-point needles.
This is a close-up I shot the morning I mailed the hose:

Right On Drac!!! Nice choice of ribbon for the custom cuff. I REALLY like that idea. That will pair very nicely with near any kilt you have (especially your Navy one ).
And piperbdh, very well done! I really like the cable/chain detail. They're subtle but certainly add a level of class that comes with attention to the details. Great work.

Now question from me (and for everyone else with custom hose) -
What is the recommended care instructions? The fit is just touching, neither loose or snug but I would not want to make them into P.A.S.T. garments so I want to keep them the way they are now.

Hand wash, lukewarm water, gentle detergent, don't wring...drip dry at room temp. I'd say that's a safe bet.

That's quite an interesting idea to have ribbons determine the pattern of the cuff. I really, really dig the cabling and chains too!

I should have included that with the hose. Follow longhunter74's directions above, except lay them out flat to dry. I use a large wire-grid cooling rack from the kitchen. After you wash them, you can roll them in a towel, place it in the washing machine and turn on the spin cycle, then lay them out flat to dry.

Very nice. Incorporating the colors of the campaign ribbon is an interesting idea. And the chain design David worked in is fantastic for nautical theme. All we need now is to see a photo of you wearing them!

How bad is it that after all these years, I recognized the ribbon before i read what it was?
Very nice hose, by the way.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

It's never a bad thing. As a former active-duty Marine, I see that "kind of stuff" all the time.
Cheers,
