REVIEW: Tartan hose cuffs = £30! Henderson Highland Hose

Hi guys. I was looking around for some solid leg hose with tartan cuffs to match my Campbell Ancient kilt. Most places said they couldnt do them and the ones who could were looking for £90-140!

I found one place - who supply Scotweb. I was quoted £30 on the phone for what I wanted.
As the owner and maker - Mr. Henderson does not have email I sent him a letter with a cheque and a picture of what I wanted (I just photoshopped a quick design). I requested for the hose to be ready for the 17th of October - as I have a wedding comming up. I phoned to say I had send these - along with my measurements. He told me how usually invoices people after he makes them but he wouldn't cash the cheque til he was done and he'd just send it back if he didn't have the correct colours.
Here we are - only 2 weeks later and they're here!
They look and feel great... a wool blend for comfort and they've got a bit of stretch in them. They fit well - bellow the knee and they match my kilt very well

    Here's some pics:

Pobably the best £30 I've ever spent!

For those of you looking to buy a pair here are the details:

    Mr. Dennis Henderson
    Henderson Highland Hose
    9 Lovain Terrace
    Berwick Upon Tweed
    Northumberland
    England
    TD15 1LA

    Tel/Fax (01289) 302831
    International (+441289) 302831

For those of you wishing to purchase a pair in the UK - if you want to speed the order up by a week or so and skip the invoice I'd recommend that you send a cheque of the amount + £2 for P&P (the postage is £1.98).

    Hope this helps!

Verra nice, Paul. I have always liked this particular style of hose. I have a photo somewhere of some members of the Cameronians wearing similar hose on parade in Mayala in the 1950s.

And me also - McMurdo's the one who really made me want a pair. I think a few other members have some as well.
The Cameronians seem to have had a range of dresses from the pictures and paintings I've seen. I've never seen any millitary wearing Argyll or diced cuffs though... would be interesting.

    Paul -- go to:

    http://cameronians.org/gallery/gallery_action.html

And scroll down to the picture with the caption: "1st Battalion, Malaya 1950-53".

A depiction of said uniform by military artist Mike Chappell can be found in the Osprey Book "The Malayan Campaign 1948–60".

Very nice hose at a good price! The foot and leg portion of the hose appear to be black. Is this correct, Paul?

Yes, the solid colour is black.

They do any colour. Just phone and see what they have.
Tell them the tartan and the mill you want it to match and they'll do it exactly to the shade.
