    The non-tartan contemporary kilt thread

    Tartan Not Welcome Here

...just because I don't think we've had one in a long, long, long, long time.

I'm just curious if anybody has anything new and interesting to say about canvas or polycotton UK's, Amerikilts, Home-built kilts, Freedom Kilts, Sportkilts, X-Kilts and so on.

One of our women throwers recently put together a breast cancer awareness kilt. In the spirit of the old Pittsburgh kilts, and I think taking some inspiration from the black and flame kilt I made for our local Amazon, Bethany. She teamed up a black apron with black pleats, but the pleat reveals were a pink cloth with a pink/white breast cancer awareness ribbon pattern.

I'll see if I can't find some pictures.

BTW, here is Bethany's black and flames kilt that I made for her a while ago.

I remember seeing pictures of your flame kilt, and I still think it is quite impressive work. I'm starting to look at making my first x-kilt and hope maybe by number 4 or 5 I'll feel ready to attempt the contrasting reveal design.

That one was collected today, so i hope to get some pictures over the next weeks, but here is one I made from the same design- but a different colourway a few years ago, it's a French cotton print which is about 2.2m wide, sadly now discontinued, I got the last green length in the UK!

I'm a tartan lady, but my goodness Paul your non-tartan kilts are works of modern art. Stunning! Keep it up (and post more pics!)
Thanks Alan for starting this thread.

kc8ufv was making some sort of X-kilts with tdifferent colors of pleats a while back, and that caught my interest. Can't remember if the front and back of the pleats were different, or if each whole pleat was a different color. Either would be interesting.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Here is a heavy cotton twill in Forest Green from our very own Jeanie at AltKilt at the Great Wall.

At one point during my climb I thought I would never make much of an ascent because I was being asked to have my picture taken every 10 feet (and that on the lower portion is not an exaggeration). Trust me I know it was the kilt and not my mug.

This Buzz Kidder is my working kilt for my part-time job in the sporting goods department of a local Walmart. As it is kaki it conforms to their uniform requirement of wearing kaki/tan p@nts. Also, it’s my working kilt at Highland Games when I am setting up my Clan tent or camping out.

It's easy to keep the pleats pressed with my hand steamer. It was a great purchase for $99 and free shipping a few years, ago.
