Henderson Ancient: Kilt Hose Suggestions

I need to procure some kilt hose. What suggestions would anyone have to go with a Henderson Ancient tartan? I was thinking either Lovat Green or Lovat Blue with Mustard/Yellow garter ties (to bring out the yellow stripe in the tartan). I think burgandy / claret would be too overpowering with this tartan (although I certainly do love the look of them!). I also saw these on the Pennys.ca website, but I don't know what they are called.

The Louisville Pipe Band wears Ancient Henderson. A couple of years back we toyed with the idea of changing from our "pipe band white" hose to another color, since other bands were changing to black. (We also discussed shirts, but that's another topic for discussion).

Since there is a blue over-check under the white stripe, we looked at lovat blue hose - the lovat green we looked into was too olive green for the base color of the tartan, which is actually a blue-ish green as compared to a true green. The blues don't quite match up, but they're closer than the green. (At least with the 10-year-old kilt and the new hose we compared). Then we looked at the cost - too expensive for most of the band members, even with a bulk order discount - so we stayed with white, but changed from popcorn knit hose tops to the 'pipers hose' now being sold.

We also thought about black, but didn't want to jump on the same wagon every other band seemed to be doing.

Another possibility would be a gold-yellow (the stripe on top of the black overcheck). Charcoal would probably also work OK.

I think a Forest Green might look quite good with Henderson Ancient or, perhaps, a dark gold (not quite so bright as mustard)

I have two Kilts in the Henderson Tartan as it is my Clan. I wear dark green hose with the Ancient Tartan one and a lovat green for the Muted Tartan one. If you wear woolen kilt hose be careful to hand wash them as they shrink..... With the Ancient you might consider a Green Tweed Day Jacket and a Green Prince Charlie formal jacket.

Thanks for the advice on the hose. As for the jackets, I just recently purchased a Navy day jacket and a black Argyll. At this point, I "might consider" not giving my wife an excuse to take my head off with any more purchases...for now (if you know what I mean!).
