Abertillery, South Wales
Just to let you know that a package arrived from Dorset this morning...
The sun is shining on the snow-flecked mountains to welcome the Quaich!
Photos to follow in due course!

Re: Abertillery, South Wales
Are you taking the Quaich to the source of the Penderyn Single Malt? I will be so jealous......

Re: Abertillery, South Wales
Now there's a thought! Perhaps they might give me a free sample to try in the Quaich!

Great to see the quaich making another appearance McClef. I think it would be grand to have the local distillery donate a small dram with which to toast.
As we have seen, the quaich can pull off some amazing things, good luck to you.

Re: Abertillery, South Wales
Now, I am not wishing to stir up the dust, but what has happened to the quaich - and photos of its adventures - or have I missed something (which is quite possible)?
Take care,
Ham.

Fear not Hamish you have not.
A combination of weather and a stomach bug have delayed matters. Now more up to taking out and it will be visiting around the area starting this coming weekend.
I loved being able to examine the Bicknell Tartan sample in the box - very nice!

Roof and the chimney over the Still.
The Penderyn and Welsh flags proudly flying.
Display at the first part of the tour showing what Penderyn can currently produce.

A display of whiskey related paraphernalia on the tour.
The still - they only have one but it was made in Prestonpans. Alas you only get to see it behind glass.
A plaque giving some details of the distillation process. You will note that the barley wash preparation is not done at the distillery itself but is provided by Brains Brewery from Cardiff.

Re: Abertillery, South Wales
A Whisky barrel signed by HRH The Duke of Rothesay in his capacity as Prince of Wales.
This is one of only three known bottles that survive from the previous distillery in Wales which was located in the North near Lake Bala.
It was at Frongoch and more information about it can be found at http://www.celticmalts.com/journal.a...ierarchy=0|4|9
And a slightly closer look from a different angle.

Reason: More info on the previous distillery
