What to wear with Gordon jacket?

    Greetings,

I have a wonderful (Ancient?) Gordon tartan sport coat that was my father-in-law's. The tartan is very green and blue with a yellow stripe. I am curious as to what color trousers one should wear with this item? Shirt? I guess one can never go wrong with grey trousers and a white shirt. What say?

    Thank you,
    Richard

Greetings, Richard. Sounds great. I would wear khaki trousers and with that tartan you could wear a white shirt, pale blue, or pale yellow. If yellow I would wear a dark blue tie like the blue in the tartan. If pale blue I'd wear a dark blue tie or something regimental, (don't know if you are military). Sounds like a nice coat. Please post photos!

Wear it to our Burns Supper on Feb 2 in Leominster!

I think an Ancient Gordon kilt pleated to the set, would probably look best.

    Regards

A modern sport coat with matching kilt?? May be too much on the eyes, thinks I!

    Thanks,
    Richard

    KiltedMariner,

Please be careful using the tr***er word here on X Marks. Some of our members have sensitive constitutions and may faint if they read words like that.

Point taken. That said, the jacket IS a lovely Scot-woven, handmade job; it'd be a shame not to wear it proudly, even if it DOES require bifurcation!

Have it converted to be a kilt jacket and it would be awesome. A lot of tartan, yes. But awesome

Thanks for the reply. Is it acceptable for one to wear khaki in winter? Also, I wear a bow tie, so matching that will be tricky too!

I'd like to know more about the Leominster Supper!

Why not treat the jacket as if it is a tweed sportcoat? If that's the case you can't go wrong with a pair of charcoal flannel trousers, black full brogues, a blue Oxford shirt and a club or repp tie.
