SWK Leather Kilt Jacket Sizing
Recently received as a gift a Leather Kilt Jacket from Stillwater Kilts, size Extra Large. Well constructed, good quality finely-grained lambskin, nice details (although the notches in the lapels are a little too deep in my opinion)--but it was waaaay too small for me. I'm five feet ten inches, 210 pounds, athletic build, and normally take a size 46R or 46L suit (although my other kilt jackets are 48L). A size Extra Large upper body garment usually fits me just fine, so I was very disappointed--as a slightly dressier alternative to my other cropped/waist length leather or denim racing and Eisenhower type jackets, I would have worn than jacket constantly. I'm hoping SWK will continue to offer these, ideally in both Black and Brown, with more true-to-size fit, but I would advise that the current product runs about two "letter" sizes smaller.

Sorry to hear about the sizing issue, as these jackets are good ones for the price. I'm 5'10"/175 and normally take a 42R, and I've found that SWK's size Large jacket works for me but is really a bit too large, while the Medium is perfect.
Like you, I hope the Brown becomes a standard item. It has real. . .panache.

is your complaint that the jacket does not close like regular jacket or that it does not fit like an argyle jacket?
LitTrog: Bah. You guys with your "knowledge" and "talents." Always taking the legs out from under my ignorant nincompoopery.

The jacket in a size Extra Large would not close in front at all, i.e., could not be buttoned, and mind you, I'm a fit, athletic guy with no "spare tire" on my waist. It also did not have enough room in the chest/shoulders, and the sleeves were too short, because....it was too small for me (maybe I'm bigger than I think I am, but don't sign me up for the Caber Toss). Not a complaint, just an advisory, assuming the jacket I received was not mislabeled with an incorrect size tag, etc. It otherwise would undoubtedly fit like an Argyle jacket, which of course is essentially what it's based on. I'm sure it's unintentional and I will undoubtedly order from SWK again, especially given their relative proximity to the Chicago area. Meanwhile, I'm replacing it with a charcoal gray tweed Argyle Jacket with stag horns and matching vest, which will also make a good daywear option, especially for the office--I plan to also buy a dark gray wool flannel vest with lapels from Paul Frederick to wear with it as well. You only live once, might as well look good!

Have you contacted Jerry? Perhaps there is a solution.

I've already returned the jacket, and assumed that the sizes simply run small (for me, anyway). If they've received a considerable number of other returns of the same item--for the same reason-- perhaps they'll have them made in the future with a more generous cut. I'll be the first in line to order (again) if they do--the idea of a leather kilt jacket is, of course, simply brilliant, and I'm sure there's still plenty of ongoing demand for theirs.
Best Regards,
