Adopted by a Scot
Greetings from California!
It was actually by chance I came across this forum whilst doing a bit of research on some of the kilts I have - and happy I did!
About 10 years ago I inherited 3 kilts from my adoptive grandfather, a professor originally from Glasgow, but whose family came from the highlands. I have worn them ever since (whenever I could find a good excuse), however it was only recently that I began to take a greater interest in Scottish culture in history.
Looking forward to lots of learning!
Cheers.

Greetings Nerf_Herder, and welcome to X Marks from Delmarva on the East Coast. You are very lucky by todays standard, to have inherited not just one kilt, but three of them. WOW! What tartans are they?
There are a lot of resources available to help you learn about Scottish history and culture and, of course, XMTS is one of them. You may not get all your answers here but, if not, you will certainly be pointed in the right direction. Regarding Highland dress, you have definitely come to the right place.
I'm glad you chose to join the rabble.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle.
