    Warm weather wardrobe

I've been looking at my kilt wardrobe and I see that it's heavily slanted toward cool weather. I am replete with sweaters and turtlenecks. I could use some advice about what to wear with the kilt in warm weather.

If someone asked me for this advice, I'd tell them whatever they'd wear with trousers, wear with a kilt. My summer wardrobe consists mainly of loud Hawaiian shirts. Hawaiian shirts + highland dress = Um, No.

So I ask, what kind of shirts do you wear with your tartan kilt in warmer weather?

Khaki safari style shirts (both long and short sleeved) are an excellent choice.

Also don't be too quick to dismiss Hawaiian Aloha shirts, they can work...ith:

I'm 100% with Jamie on safari and tactical shirts. Linen also works well—breathable and the fabric goes very well with many tartans.

Re: "Hawaiian shirts + highland dress = Um, No."

Oh, I don't know. Our church hosted a dinner at which I wore a loud Hawaiian shirt with a bright kilt. When folks asked me about it, I told them that I couldn't remember whether our dinner theme was Hawaiian or Hebridean, so I wasn't taking any chances.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Aside from the safari/tactical shirts that have already been mentioned, I also like your basic short-sleeved golf/sport shirts...

    Depends, er, on the situation.

As to the Hawaiian shirts, with a solid kilt and sandals they would be fine. The trick to these shirts is to find one that clashes with itself. It therefore is neutral and can be worn with anything.

I wear golf shirts a lot, seems to fit. Throw on a blazer and it dresses up a bit. Or maybe a nice silk crew neck T instead of the golf shirt.

I also like what I call guide shirts. Most feature pleated pockets, epaulettes and a tab and button to hold a rolled up sleeve. I have one that is very light with a vented back panel.

I enjoy my tactical shirts from 5.11. They have good size chest pockets and even large hidden document pockets that will easily hold folded sheets of 8.5x11. All of the pockets more than make up for the lack of room in my sporrans.
