    Limerick Thread

For the sake of a limerick thread
(And because I've a few stuck in my head)
    You see, limericks
    Are kinda my shtick
But let's hear some of yours instead

There once was a girl named Sue
Who liked to drink milk from a ewe
    But to her dismay
    She discovered one day
What she was actually drinking was glue

Poor Sue just didn't know how
She could ever drink milk from a cow
    Now she drinks almond milk
    And milks of that ilk
Off dairy she is now avowed

It is amazing how we remember certain things but forget others. Forty-two years ago, when I was in high school, we had an assignment to pen examples of different types of poems. And though I have long forgotten the others, the limerick remember.

There is a poem called limerick.
It never fails to make me sick.
    Five lines and a rhyme.
    Some say it is divine.
But I could give it a swift kick.

Now if I could only remember what I had for supper yesterday.

They are not for everyone, it's true
Limericks are just something I do
    It seems that I can't
    Deny my penchant
So I'm sorry if they offend you

    The Reverend Henry Ward Beecher,
Said a hen was an excellent creature,
    The hen, pleased at that,
laid an egg in his hat,
and thus did the hen reward preacher.

    Verses from Pete Seeger song:

Now that I know my youth is all spent
My get up and go has got up and went
In spite of it all I'm able to grin
And think of the places my get up has been

I get up each morning and dust off my wits
Open the paper and read the obits
If I'm not there I know I'm not dead
So I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed.

There's this song. I learned it as "In China they do it for chilies."

It's inappropriate to post any of the verses here so google it.
