Beautiful piece. Could you turn the sheath over for a photo? I like the area for engraving.
Oh, how thick is the sheath at the top?

Vince Evans and his wife, Grace, are historic cutlery creators. Based on pictures of his work I'd classify him as a master blade-smith.
They published a book Titled "Carving Scottish Dirks", basically a tutorial on how to carve and assemble a dirk handle. Obviously the techniques for carving the handles is the same for sgian dubhs, just on a smaller scale.

Wow! His work looks magnificent. Does he have a website that anyone knows of? (I'm feeling the Jones starting already.)

Thanks, Tarheel. I will take some more pictures and post them, but it will probably be tomorrow. By the way, Vince adorned the top of the handle with a pierced heart.

Vince is a knife and sword maker who lives in Hawaii, though I believe he was in Arizona when we first started corresponding about the project. His wife does the carving. I was referred to him by Lamar Britt. There are some other examples of his work in this forum.

A truly heirloom quality Sgian in a sea of cheap plastic and pot metal junk that we commonly see these days. Whatever you paid for it, it is well worth the money! What a thing of beauty.

Lamar has several examples of Vince's work, and I consider myself fortunate to have held the latest acquired.
Vince was in Scotland and was able to convince a museum to allow close examination of a historic dirk; holding,
weighing, measuring, close photos, eyeballs all over. Lamar got an exact replica made. Words cannot convey
the astonishing work I had in my hand. Twenty and a half ounces, beautifully balanced, itself museum quality.
I've had other impressive dirks in my hand, even others made by him; this one is astonishing. He seems to just
get better and better at the craft. If you can swing it, jump on it.
