Trying to see what will look good with my kilt.

it kind of caught me off guard.. I have wanted this kilt for over a decade.. and now I have it. I will need the forums help for ideas to really get the most out of this kilt. I grew up playing in a pipe band so I have a decent knowledge of how to wear it but I never had a kilt of my own that I was excited about til now. The kilt is Ancient Maxwell. The picture makes it look more red than it is.. it's actually a nice burnt orange. I feel like I'm getting the 'piping judge' look down.. to be honest that's all I know.

Actually you are looking pretty good! You have learnt a lot from the band and that is obvious. We will no doubt come with a few minor tweaks for you to consider in due course, there won't be many. In he meantime get used to wearing it, sitting in it, going out and about, shopping, etc.. Its one thing have the rest of the band to hide behind, but it must take some doing to do it solo. Steady as you go, slow and small steps will get you there, for now.

In the meantime think about going smart casual, do a bit of research on it here and then have a go at it when you are ready and lets have a picture.

Hahahaha!!!! You didn't like my "Blue Steel" look?!?!?! I dont blame you.. I look angry most of the time. I usually crack a half smile when I feel like laughing.

It does look like you've got the piper look down, however for everyday wear there are a couple of things I would suggest. First either the waistcoat or the belt, not both. As for the jacket, I and I think many others prefer the look of the jacket when it is unbuttoned, it just hangs better. I do not know if you had been wearing it all day or not, but to my eye it seems to have slipped down a bit, or it is simply a trick of the camera angle, if it's lower than mid knee then pull it up a wee bit. Oh and of course as Jock said smile.

I am going to start smiling more I promise. 😆😆😆 haha but that is good to know about the belt and waistcoat. I didn't know that. Thank you mcmurdo and also I will keep a close eye on the height of kilt from now on.. I have been known to let it drop a little bit after a few hours.

The whole ensemble looks grand but I do think the jacket is a bit long especially when viewed from the back....it might just be the photograph but that is what it looks like in my humble opinion.... you are looking mighty fine

I also think it's long. Thank for driving that point home for me I'm going to either look for a new jacket or get it tailored. I value your opinion thank you.

I also agree that the jacket should be unbuttoned and it's a bit too long in the back. BUT, I would recommend you have that jacket tailored rather than replaced. It's a handsome jacket. No need to toss it!!

I would agree with Mr Daw, pin it up a couple of inches, to see how it looks, then adjust till you get what you want, then ask a seemstress to take it up. I have a similar jacket, tweed but not a kilt jacket and will be doing the same when I get measured for my new kilt in 3 weeks.

Looking good though, the little touches will make it look great and if you feel great you might even smile - just pulling your leg ( which is good natured fun if the term is not used in your locality).

I was going to mention the jacket length in the back but I seem to like the cut. I think some jackets need to shorter but yours seems fine. As Jock suggests, smile, the public will follow your lead. I believe you may find other items you like wearing (shirts, vests, etc) will feel right along with your kilt. Good showing.
