    Re: USAK Douglas is here!

Another Clan Douglas member and USAK patron chiming in. Congratulations on your new kilt! My first was a 5-yarder from Rocky.

Riverkilt and KiltedCodeWarrior: Thanks for the pics displaying and contrasting the two pleating styles. Quite a large-scale difference from a small-scale decision.

Also, it warms the heart (of Bruce?) to see the Douglas Clan members acclaiming their presence, interest, and allegiance.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Looks great! Hope you're as happy with yours as I am with mine. Too lazy to look up: where does USAK get their fabric? The sett looks slightly different; the white stripe on mine isn't as prominent? maybe narrower? Yet on yours the blue stripes bordering the black seem slightly narrower too. How is yours pleated -- knife or box? Mine is pleated somewhat similarly, but tighter around the narrow blue stripes. (A couple of you were interested in comparing the pleating options -- you might take a look at mine as well)

    Very nice, KCW!

This is one of our Casual Kilts in Marton Mills' PV Fabric. We also make wool kilts (with pleats much narrower), but our Casual has pleats 1.5" wide.

glenlivet: Very handsome indeed! ... as are all kilts made from Douglas tartans. Thanks for posting the pic.

Your pleats are narrower (more cloth I assume), and I see what you mean about the brightness difference in the white stripe. I suppose that is due to the reflective qualities of wool vs. PV. My son's and my PVs from USA Kilts are very bright, too. We like brightness, so we regard that as an advantage.

Wow! Haven't see one like that before. It's difficult (for me, anyway) to tell, because all the pleats aren't shown, but comparing it to KCW's kilt, it appears to be "pleated to (an expanded) sett".

Is that correct? Is the sett on the front apron the same size or smaller? If not the same size, was the motivation for pleating in that style purely aesthetic?

Yeah, sorry about the condensed view, I don't have a picture of it on at the moment. And it's just a very large sett...not as "tartany" looking, I guess, but I like it. It's Marton Mills 16oz wool.

I like large setts. I'm thinking about doing something similar with the Stewart Hunting Modern, and of course, having it pleated to sett. If so, I'll post some pics, but I'm very slow at that.
