    Looking for a cap badge

Hello. I am looking for a source where I might find an other than clan/Scottish badge to wear on a balmoral. Or a suitable substitute.

While I've discovered my family has a relationship with a clan it played no part in our family's tradition. I am also not trying to duplicate highland dress. I will not be wearing the balmoral with my kilt. I just would like an alternative cover, and think a balmoral looks pretty good with a sportcoat.

    Thanks.

There are a multitude of places. There is one listed on the right side of the page under XMarks Advertisers, the Celtic Croft, where I have purchased clan badges before. http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/

E-bay. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks.

Mizzou- perhaps I wasn't clear but I want a badge that doesn't have a Scottish or clan, or even Celtic motif. Perhaps it doesn't exist and I'll have to find a substitute, but ....

Scotweb also has a couple of "looks like a clan badge but isn't" e.g.

Cheaper here And yet cheaper still (no UK tax applied) if you select USA at the "change country" dropdown.

The Three cogs, Illegitimus Non Carborundum (Don't let the Bas...) variant is called "Machine" and is at the bottom of the "select clan" dropdown.

They don't have an image of it but if you go the the Show us your Kilt Pins thread, it's Pin 13 in Post #4. In fact there are quite a few pins in that thread (not just my posts) that would work equally well as a hat badge and might give you some inspiration.

A former band mate used to wear his US Army officer's cap badge (the eagle and shield) instead of a clan badge.

I would think anything about 3 or so inches in diameter (or square) would do. Any larger runs the risk of weighing down the hat. Any smaller would look more like a lapel pin put on the hat by mistake.
