My sweetie, carolinanan117, converted a thrift store purchased Harris Tweed jacket for me. She looked at these 2 threads -

I like the way your conversion turned out, your thread is amongst others saved to use as reference when I do mine.

I'd love a January kilt night! I cannot make the burns supper because of conflict with my wife having a birthday round that time so an alternative would be great!

I need to decide, epulettes or no? Rebutton with different buttons? Keep the original ones? Reposition the buttons on the sleeves or leave them where they are?

I personally prefer no epaulets. I am ambivalent about the cuff buttons.

'Never did a conversion and am thinking of "entrusting" first one to local tailor who has done work here for many years.

Here is my test pinning, I'm looking at a one button conversion thus far...

I've pinned it 6 inches up, and obviously the sporran cutout will be a nice curve and not a wedge cut like my mock up shows. But the beginning and end points are where I think the ought to be

So take a look, and shoot me some input on the proportions.

Length looks good. Sporran cutaway might be a wee wide.

Getting the curves is tough. Like we discussed (over text), draw a curve on a piece of paper, cut it out and use it as a template.

Since you will be undoing the front to do this, don't pin the curves up, just put a line of pins to indicate how you want the curve to look. Let your tailor do the cutting and figure out how to sew the curve. (and get past that pesky buttonhole)

This is a lesson learned from doing my conversions.
