Uniform of Scots Greys and Scots Dragoon Guards.

    Hello

Could anyone tell me what the differences are between the full dress uniform of pipers in (what was) The Royal Scots Greys and (what is now) The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards?

    Thanks for any info.

The full dress really didn't change after the amalgamation because the 3rd Carabiners where an English regiment and didn't have any highland dress traditions. The badges changed and I am not a 100% sure, but I think the full dress trim went from silver to gold on the doublets and the vandyke band on the feather bonnets. When the pipes and drums of the Scots Greys reformed after ww2, King George decided on how the band would be dressed so during amalgamation their uniforms where left basically untouched out of respect.

This is a picture of Pipe-Major of Royal Scots Greys made in 1966.

Also the van Dyke (correct name for the zig-zag pattern)on the feather bonnets worn pipers by the Royal Scots Greys was white. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards adopted the yellow vandyke as this was the facing colour of the 3rd Carabiniers, with whom the Greys amalgamated on 2nd July 1971.

And I suppose, but not sure that

    - RSGreys worn red and black diced hose and RSDG changed hose to red and green.
    - RSGreys worn white/silver lacing on pipers doublets and RSDG changed to yellow/gold.

    I have to check...

Thanks for that info. Very useful for doing uniform drawings.

Thanks very much for the correction!
In looking further I found a white/black van Dyke band on a Royal Scots Greys forage cap (the feathers obscure it on the bonnet):
