I'm a lay preacher so I guess I could wear it
You can see all the Clergy tartans at http://www.tartansauthority.com/web/...rtan=By+Tartan.
The one called Clergy Blue is the most readily available.
As far as I know, none is associated with a particular denomination, though of course the Presbyterian/Church of Scotland and Roman Catholic denominations are the most prevalent in Scotland.
That's a nice tartan...(sigh) so many tartans, so little time!

I wonder if somebody could pull it off in the modern age?
I know lots of ministers who hunt, shoot, and in general pack pistols on a regular basis.
Matter of fact, once upon a time, a Pastor friend was raising the offering plate in blessing and his .38 SPL Chief Special that he'd been carrying in his waistband Mexican-style, i.e. no holster, slid down his pants leg, bounced off his boot and slid across the floor. Jim said the congregation got real quiet, and then burst into laughter as he scrambled after the pistol.
And there is a small informal group known as the Pistol Packing Preachers Association.
At LeverGuns.Com, Jim has this scripture as his signature line:
When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace - Luke 11:21
Nothing in the Bible that says enjoyment of firearms is wrong.

I disagree with both you and Dreadlock-Ness Monster.
I'm more in agreement with Robert Heinlein's assessment that "An armed society is a polite society."
Since time immemorial, freemen and gentry have born arms. Bearing arms was the sign of a Free man rather than a bond servant. In days when people were expected to accept responsibility for their actions and for their crimes, there were fewer instances where men resorted to arms in the heat of an arguement. After all he KNEW that if he drew a weapon, his enemy and the friends of his enemy would do the same. Hence, an intelligent person would think before he used fighting words, or reached for his weapon.
Today, where it is not common for people to be armed, many people routinely use words and terms that in the 18th or 19th Century would have resulted in an invitation to join some one for pistols for two and breakfast for one.
Lambeth will be loud, and most entertaining for non-Anglicans, but don't expect bloodshed or fisticuffs.
BTW, if excecutions or assinations could cure or end homosexuality, it would have been stamped out thousands of years ago.

Listen, folks, this is really too much.
You all know that this is not the place to air your negative views on homosexuality, yet time and time again people go right on ahead (and sorry, saying, "oh, I guess I better stop before someone might get pissed off" after you have spewed hate all over the forum is a flimsy cover-up). I find it childish and extremely egotistical.
Please start a CHRISTIAN VALUES KILT FORUM of your own, I am all for it. There you could post whatever you like about anyone who differs from you in any way.
HERE WE TALK ABOUT KILTS WITHOUT INSULTING ONE ANOTHER OR IMPLYING VIOLENCE TOWARDS ANY GROUP>>>IF I AM WRONG IN THIS I ASK THE MODERATORS TO LET ME KNOW< SO I CAN LEAVE THE FORUM AND START ONE OF MY OWN:
The Tolerant, Mature and Polite Kilt-Wearers Forum.
Anybody else wanna join?

Yeah, and can anyone say - OFF TOPIC!
If anything this topic could/should have covered the propriety in wearing the clergy tartan, and/or the wearing of tartans in displaying faith or clans beyond regional affiliation.
Might we get back to that? Please.

Phillibeg, I mostly agree with you. But I must affirm that there is nothing Christian about hating anyone. If an opinion involves hatred to a person, or group, it ain't Christian, it's bigotry.
Cheers

Okay. As for the blue based, black stripe and white piping tartan...
The tartan is variously called Clark, Clerk, Clerke, Clergy and Priest within books dating from around 1850.
Wilson of Bannockburn called the tartan "Priest" in his 1847 pattern book.
The muted colors conform to the Victorian idea of suitable clothing for the clergy. This is the tartan usually associated with the Clark family!
As for the blue based, black stripe and green piping tartan...
It is recorded of a clergyman in Skye in the 18th century. The tartan description follows.
The Clan Crest
There's a picture of "the burning bush".
The motto is "Nec tamen consumebatur" (It was not consumed)
That's VERY cool!
Arise. Kill. Eat.

This is from the arms of the Church of Scotland (Presbyterian).
