    Clan 'God'

We all know the debates about tartans and affiliation. Not having any Scottish heritage myself (more Spanish and English in me than anything else - by blood at least) I can't lay claim to any clan tartans, even though it would be cool to have a tartan kilt I had a 'connection' with.

Then it occurred to me. What, to me, is far more important than any regional or blood affiliation? God, and my faith. Echoing the poetic language of Hebrews, I stand with those who, "make it clear that they are seeking a homeland...". Those who, "aspire to a better land--a heavenly one." I stand with those who can both joyfully and humbly hear that, "God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them."

Well, a little while ago, whilst looking for my first kilt, I was looking for tartans and discovered one which gave me an idea. Until Matt mentioned it, I had know idea that there exists a 'Clergy' tartan. "Cool!" I thought. "Clan God!"

Yesterday I received two swatched I received - Clergy Ancient and Modern. (Thanks Matt!)

Now I'm not an ordained minister or anything, but it'll do, and besides, they're nice tartans!

I think there are green and blue versions of the Clergy Tartan.

For those of us that can (and do) wear the Clergy tartan, we see it as a representation of our own calling. It's nothing to do with "Clan God" (dearie, dearie me, I do hope this won't become a new catch phrase ), but rather it identifies our service FOR God. I hope that difference is clear.

    Yours aye,
    Mike

No offense intended, but isn't service what Clans are all about?

Mutual help in time of trouble. Offering the hand of brotherhood in times of sorrow. And sharing joy in the good times. Seems to me that Clan is a matter of faith as well.

And you must admit, He is Laird of All.

    Dear Lord!?!?

I don't know, my folks church didn't seem to like my kilt last weekend. We'll give 'em another shot or two, though.

So hey, with all the tartans being done does that mean Israel doesn't have a tartan yet? Would be pretty if it included the flag colors.

    clergy tartan

While it is true that most people would assume you were a member of the clergy, I believe members of the Clark family in Scotland also wear this tartan. District tartans are always great alternatives.

I doubt most people would have a clue what tartan it was. Generally folks don't really know one tartan from another.
