    Questions:

    1. It appears from the pics that the kilt's leather is sort of that brushed leather look instead of finished leather (smooth). Is that the case? (and pardon me for my lack of knowledge on leather types - I'm not really a leather guy but love the look of the new R-Kilt, Ham!)

    2. Does the leather leave stains on you if you wear it in hot weather and you sweat a lot?

    Thanks!

My RKilt and my UK leather are smooth on the outside, rough on the inside...soft rough...think of a baseball mitt for the outside texture.

Both my leather kilts absorb the sweat. I was worried that they would stain. The UK brown leather is so dark it doesn't matter. BBQ sauce wipes off my saffron leather RKilt, even hours later. Don't think I'd care since developing a patina is part of wearing leather.

Yes, I know this was Ham's question...just thought I did more sweating than he does down here in the high desert canyonlands of Arizona.

    Thumbs up

    - actually, Ron, in my head I was addressing the sweat question to you, for the reason you gave!

    Thanks for the info.

Congratulations to both Ham and Robert.
Mostly to Ham, because he gets to wear the kilt. Fantastic.

Received my own Rkilt (black denim) 13 days ago.
Have worn it almost every day since.
    Robert does wonderful work.

Thank you for that Ron. I have had my black pocketless (and thankfully, lace-up-side-less) UK since January 2003 - that has a slightly shiny outer surface and a suede-like inner one. My black leather Union Kilts (Nov 2004 - Feb 2005) are very similar but the leather used is very much lighter. My black leather TFCK kilt, a full 6 yarder, is similar again to the hide used by Utilikilts but is possibly very slightly thinner because its weight is identical. My new R-Kilt has a rather matt outer surface and a really quite 'roughed-up' suede-like inner one.

The only one I have so far allowed myself to sweat in is the Utilikilt, which I wore to the Utilikilts 3rd Anniversary Party, near Seattle, in July 2003. The temperature was in the upper 80'sF and, boy, didn't I know it as I was wearing it all day and into the evening!

Just wearing my new leather R-Kilt for an hour for the photos, a couple of days ago, was enough to tell me that I really cannot wear it out at the moment. All this week, and for the forecastable future, our temperatures are also well into the upper 80'sF, when even my lightweight Nightwatch camo Utilikilt is almost too much!! However, when the temperature reverts to normal, and certainly in the Autumn and beyond, that kilt of Robert's is really going to get some wear.

When you stated earlier, Ron, that the leather 'moulds' itself to your body, I know exactly what you mean, as I do about the fabulous leather smell (although I am not 'into' leather in any way other than regarding my, now 6, real leather kilts). This is especially the case with the R-Kilt - brilliant!

By the way, I very nearly opted for the Saffron leather, but I felt it might be slightly impractical because of its much lighter colour - I'd have sleepless nights if I stained anything that light! Now, I am SO pleased I selected the British Tan.
