I've seen several pictures of guys wearing those with kilts. Many were posted on these boards. I think it looks fine, personally.

Robin, those wingtip shoes are quite accaptable for dress occasions.
I bought a pair of ghillie brogues, but almost wish I hadn't. The laces are a pain in the posterior.

Ah! So those are Wingtips! I've asked previously and been told what they were but I could not visualise them accurately - Wingtips is not a name we use here in the United Kingdom.
Yes, those are black brogue shoes, Robin, and I always wear them when formally dressed, and sometimes when not so formally dressed! I am one of those who loathes the ghastly ghillie brogues and, in almost sixty years of kilt wearing at all levels of formality I have never felt obliged to try them. There is nothing 'traditional' about them since they are an invention of the Victorian age.

I'm one who loves wingtips. In fact I love them so much that I have wing tips in black, brown & ox blood.
The only shoes that I really love but don't feel I can wear anymore are dirty-buck saddle shoes. I tried once but I looked too much like a 50's Catholic School Girl.

Like Hamish I didn't knew what "wingtips" were and I still don't understand why brogues are called wingtips in the USA...funny guys those Americans
GlassMan...I also love the brogue shoes...errr...wingtips...I've them in black and dark brown (Dutch hand made Van Bommel brand)
And to Riverkilt and Hamish...they have them in half sizes and wide or regular.

I've had no trouble getting half-sizes in the U.S.
Glassman, if you really like saddle shoes, do what I do - wear them on the golf course.

You should play better than I do, though. I'm awful.

These brogues ain't ghillies
Went out on the town last night (kilted of course) wearing my long, wool Jones of New York overcoat. (No, not THAT kind of "jones"! ) And wearing these shoes:
A woman at the bus stop noticed the shoes and asked if they were part of a "costume". I opened the coat to show her my shadow tartan STW heavy weight, which puzzled her because it wasn't a trad tartan. We engaged in friendly conversation and in the end she thanked me for satisfying her curiosity. The point is that even with the kilt covered up she knew I had something special on underneath my overcoat by the look of these shoes.
They are Doc Martens, which typically run about $200(Can) -but in fact I got them at a second hand store (and unworn, mind you) for about $50.
As Glen sez: Life is good!
