    ghillie brogues

Alrght. I want ghillies. I DON'T want to buy them new for $80 or more. There has to be an inexpensive version or way to get them. I'm thinking $40 or less.
I already have dress shoes, but those don't always cut it.

I'm going to be polite and not laugh out loud. I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed.

I searched for years. Finally found a pair on Ebay for about $60.

Half the guys here will tell you not to bother with them, but not me. They absolutely complete the formal outfit.

    Good luck.

I have a pair of Scottish made ghillies & I love 'em. They're definately not for casual wear, but they really add the finishing touch for fancy restaurants, theater, weddings, etc. I wear black leather wing-tips for lesser events.

This past summer I saw a guy wearing brown ghillies... a sort of contradiction in terms I think.

Ahh, so many questions, so little time. I wear brown shoes as regularly as black shoes in the same style. I just coordinate with the colors of the outfit, so I am still not sure why ghillies in brown with matching sporran, shirt, belt, etc. would be casual and not the same match in black.

Still hoping I, or someone else, will find Ghillie Brogues in widths to fit a Celtic man's foot. Need at least a 4E.

Beginning to think no one has taken the time to measure the true width of a man's foot. They sell these narrow sizes as if we'll somehow cram our foot in them.

Maybe, someone out there make them....thought I'd heard of one place once, but its lost in the fog of my besotted brain pan...

Traditionally, brown was day wear and black was evening wear. While there has been some relaxing of that, such that black is often worn casually, formal wear is still black.

Additionally, since ghillies have come to be the standard for formal wear, they are expected to be black.

It's a matter of perception I think. To me, brown ghillies could be worked into something like a dancer's outfit. But since I don't care for ghillies anyway, I certainly wouldn't wear them casually.
